Warm-Season Lawns (Bermuda & Zoysiagrass)

Warm season grasses are well adapted to the heat and humidity of our summers, and go dormant in winter. Warm-season grasses are on an “opposite” growth pattern than cool season grasses, with different nutrient needs in summer and winter. As with the cool season grasses, correct timing of nutrient applications keeps them looking good.

Our warm-season grass program is based on our proprietary cool-season grass program, with applications timed to optimize the growth and health of your warm-season lawn.

The seven applications that make up the Select warm-season lawn program are:

  • Spring I  A post- and pre-emergent herbicide to control various broadleaf and grassy weeds now and as spring approaches.
  • Spring II  A slow-release fertilizer containing a blend of nitrogen and iron.  We also apply our biologically-based nutrient blend containing naturally-sourced micronutrients for soil energy and conditioning.   A pre-emergent herbicide is also applied to control germinating weed seeds. Any existing weeds are spot treated with a control product.
  • Summer I  A slow-release fertilizer containing a blend of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, plus our biologically-based micronutrient blend for soil energy and conditioning.  Any existing weeds are spot treated with a control product.
  • Summer II  A slow-release fertilizer containing a blend of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, plus our   biologically-based micronutrient blend for soil energy and conditioning.  The nutrient blend has been specially formulated to promote healthy soil conditions and grass growth.  Weeds are spot treated with a control product.
  • Summer III  A slow-release fertilizer containing a blend of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium, plus our   biologically-based nutrient blend for soil energy and conditioning.  The nutrient blend has been specially formulated to promote healthy soil conditions and grass growth.  Weeds are spot treated with a control product.

  • Fall I  A potassium and iron fertilizer application to promote healthy grass and root growth. This application will help your lawn stay fresh and green throughout the fall plus help provide for improved winter dormancy. We also apply controls for weeds where needed.
  • Winter  Crushed limestone is applied. The limestone will help neutralize the natural acidity of the soil and will provide a source of calcium, an important nutrient for healthy root and plant growth. Calcium also functions as a conditioner to help reduce soil compaction.   Spot weed control for broadleaf weeds and grasses is also done at this time.
