Weather Delay of Preemergent Herbicide Applications

Crocus in the snow

February 25, 2015

Don't worry if your application of preemergent herbicide to your lawn has been delayed due to snow, ice and abnormally cold temperatures.

Even if this week's snow hangs around this weekend, preventing your planned application, you are not running out of time.

The low temperatures are working in our favor. There is no danger of crabgrass seeds germinating any time soon, as the soil temperature must remain just below 55F for a few days. Given the cold we've had in the Triad, that won't be for a while yet. The extended forecast is predicting below average to average temperatures for the next 10 to 14 days.

You have plenty of time to apply your preemergents for crabgrass and other weed control and still have full effectiveness.
